Biomedical Scientist – Band 5 (Biochemistry) Location: Kettering General Hospital, Northamptonshire Contract Type: Permanent Salary: Band 5 NHS Agenda for Change About the Role Kettering General Hospital is recruiting a Biomedical Scientist to join its Clinical Biochemistry Department
This is an excellent opportunity for a HCPC-registered Biomedical Scientist to become part of a busy laboratory service delivering high-quality diagnostic testing and supporting patient care across the Trust
The successful candidate will rotate through all areas of the laboratory, including Automation, Manual Biochemistry, and Fetal Anomaly Screening, whilst contributing to the ongoing development of the service
Key Responsibilities Perform complex biochemical analysis of clinical specimens in accordance with laboratory protocols Rotate through all sections of the Clinical Biochemistry laboratory Monitor, maintain, and troubleshoot analytical equipment Validate and authorise analytical results using appropriate quality control procedures Participate in the laboratory's 24-hour service rota, including out-of-hours duties Support UKAS accreditation requirements and quality management processes Maintain accurate laboratory records and documentation Process External Quality Assessment (EQA) samples in a timely manner Support stock control and equipment maintenance activities Train and support trainee Biomedical Scientists and Medical Laboratory Assistants Participate in service development, audits, and evaluation of new methodologies What We’re Looking For Essential HCPC Registration as a Biomedical Scientist IBMS-accredited BSc (Hons) in Biomedical Science or Healthcare Science Pre-registration laboratory experience Knowledge of safe handling of biological materials Strong organisational skills and attention to detail Ability to maintain concentration whilst performing complex analytical procedures Excellent communication and teamwork skills Understanding of confidentiality and information governance requirements Desirable Previous Clinical Biochemistry laboratory experience Knowledge of laboratory Health & Safety procedures Experience working within an NHS laboratory environment Understanding of UKAS accreditation and quality management systems If you are a HCPC-registered Biomedical Scientist looking for your next opportunity within Clinical Biochemistry, we would welcome a confidential discussion
