Senior Therapy Technical Instructor – Stroke (Band 4) Location: Northampton General Hospital, Northamptonshire Contract Type: Permanent Salary: Band 4 NHS Agenda for Change About the Role Northampton General Hospital is recruiting a Senior Therapy Technical Instructor to join its specialist Stroke Therapy Team
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced healthcare professional to support the rehabilitation of stroke patients within a multidisciplinary team
The successful candidate will work alongside Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists, delivering evidence-based therapy interventions, supporting discharge planning, and helping patients maximise their independence and recovery
Key Responsibilities Deliver therapy interventions for stroke patients under the guidance of registered therapists Support the assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation of patients with complex needs Assist with discharge planning, home assessments, and access visits Implement and review rehabilitation programmes in line with competency frameworks Assess mobility and functional abilities using agreed protocols Support patients with communication, cognitive, and physical impairments following stroke Provide education and advice to patients, carers, and families Maintain accurate patient records and therapy documentation Supervise and support Band 3 Therapy Technical Instructors where appropriate Contribute to audit, service improvement, and quality initiatives Participate in the Trust's 7-day therapy service, including weekend working What We’re Looking For Essential NVQ Level 4 in a care-related subject, equivalent qualification, or substantial healthcare experience Previous experience working within an acute NHS healthcare environment Experience working at Band 3 level or equivalent within healthcare Experience supporting patients with complex medical conditions Knowledge of Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy roles and rehabilitation pathways Understanding of anatomy, physiology, mobility, and rehabilitation principles Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Ability to work independently and prioritise workload effectively Strong IT and documentation skills Desirable Foundation Degree or equivalent health-related qualification Experience working with stroke patients Knowledge of the National Clinical Stroke Guidelines and SSNAP Experience supervising or supporting junior staff Additional therapy-related training courses If you are an experienced Therapy Assistant, Rehabilitation Assistant, or Senior Healthcare Support Worker looking to progress your career within Stroke Rehabilitation, we would welcome a confidential discussion.
